Here I wrote through another SD14 photo example, how/why I did what with the SD14 The x530 held its own at Yosemite too btw. Notice how the Fuji F30 didn't do well with the dynamic range, and I'd read about its tendency to blow highlights in bright daylight, so I was trying to control that, meter the sky, etc. But if I were there now with the SD14, I'd concentrate on getting the river water and the banks 'right' knowing that I had good dynamic range wiggle room with the SD14. I concentrated on not blowing out the sky, then I adjusted the shadows slightly in SPP2.1. Big dynamic range, classic shot from the Yosemite meadows bridge. Again some examples illustrate perhaps better than words. or interesting to think about how the SD14 worked here.Įxactly, getting the shadow area 'right' seems to be more important on the SD14 than on the SD10. In effect, I guess I was adding +EV without doing so. They were all darker as I recall without looking up the photos. None of the following shots were as good as the first, center spot, focused on dark. Then I put the SD14 on matrix (the grid symbol) metering and took a shot focused on the same center leaves and then on the sky. I've done no editing at all this photo, it's as shot and processed auto in SPP3. This shot I focused on the foliage in the center and note the bright sky did NOT blow out. I put the SD14 on small center spot meter option, auto white balance, ISO200. I was sitting on a bench, holding dog-on-leash waiting for husband to stroll around, so I thought I'd experiment. This photo is an interesting example.īackground: I had the SD14 with 28-70mmEX with UV filter. I'm conscious of my SHADOW or dark area in the photo frame, try to get it right, and thus far I haven't 'blown' highlights. With the SD14, I'm finding best results doing the. Don't blow the highlight and pull detail from the shadow with SPP2.1. With the SD10, forum friends advised (novice photographer than I am.) to focus on the highlight, ie the sky the bright area in the photo. probably focused on the barn painting and the white is fine. I don't recall exactly how I shot the 2004 photo, my SD10 was brand-new a/o Sept 2004. You can compare the detail in the foreground, barn, and background landscape to the SD14 and to the other cameras. Hi Mike, this Nov 2004 photo in the series is a SD10 photo
